Fair Oaks and Wheatfield, Indiana

This morning, after a great sleep and breakfast, some guests came over to visit. The babies name is Harper, and distantly, Britton and him are related! It is my dad's cousins grandson.
Britton loved playing with the baby!
After the company left, he played some ball with Opa,
and with Oma,
showed everyone how good he is at puzzles,
and of course had to show off his Canadian airplane!
In the afternoon, we went to be place called Fair Oaks.
It is a huge dairy farm!
We even got to see a calf being born!
Although we thought it was pretty cool, Britton just wanted to run around and look at the boos (cows).

Here's the calf right after birth.
This one was born that morning and is trying to stand up!
Fair Oaks is comprised of 10 different dairy farms with over 30,000 milking cows. Each of the cows is milked 3 times in a 24 hour period and produces about 10 gallons of milk per day. So nearly 300,000 gallons of milk are produced in one day at these sites!
They are really big into caring for the cows, using and reusing. It is a very green operation!
Once the calves are born, they are taken to another location to fully mature until they too become dairy milking cows!
Here is the rotating milking device, the cows walk on, are disinfected, attached to the milking device, are milked, cleaned off and then walk off. This rotates completely around in 8 minutes. It continually milks all the cows 3 times in about 22 hours and then is shut down for 2 hours every night for repairs and maintenance.
It was really neat to see the cows walk on and then back off. Apparently they are really easy to train and know exactly what to do!
Each of these milk tanks holds up to 8,000 gallons of milk but I think they said they normally don't fill them over 6,500 so they can be transported in the trucks easier.
Fair Oaks also has a processing center so we enjoyed some fresh ice cream, cheese and milk before we left!
