Britton's Born - May 9, 2007

So I figured that this would be a good way to let our family know what is going on in our lives and so that you can keep up with Britton and how quickly he changes! I thought that I would go back to the beginning of Britton's life and add all the important events that have happened since. I will also post some of my favorite pictures!

On the morning of May 9, 2007, I was not feeling well at all. I had been having some severe pain under my ribs and nothing seemed to ease it at all. Finally, we decided to go to the hospital. Brandon and I both thought they would tell us not to worry, it was normal and to go home. I wasn't due until June 8. When we arrived at the hospital, they ran a bunch of tests on me as well as an ultrasound. When I arrived back upstairs, one of the Ob's was waiting for me. He said that they would have to perform emergency surgery due to something called HELLP syndrome. My liver enzymes had doubled in 24 hours, my kidneys had begun to shut down and my platelets were in the 20s (normal is 150-450). My blood pressure had gone up a little the week before but all appropriate tests were run and everything was normal prior to this.

They performed an emergency C-section and Britton was born at 2:40pm at 6lbs. 8oz. and 19 1/4 inches long. I had to have general anesthesia due to the risk of bleeding out so I do not remember anything from that day. I was also given anti seizure medication to prevent swelling of my brain. This also made everything very foggy for a couple of days.

God is the only reason that I and Britton did so well during this time. Medically, it is unexplainable. A scripture verse stayed with me during this time - Jeremiah 29:11.

Psalm 139:13-16.

My dad actually flew into Nashville the day Britton was born for Meghan's college graduation. He was able to see Britton the day he was born because he came early!

Brandon was so proud!
And very tired from it all.

Papa Ferland, my stepdad. He was so proud!

If any of you came to the hospital and have a good picture, please email it to me so I can post it! Thanks!
